SRINAGAR, Sep 26: As part of the nationwide Swachhotsav campaign under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre Srinagar organized a series of impactful community-driven initiatives in the last week of September. The activities were conducted with the objective of promoting cleanliness, hygiene, and health awareness among the people while inspiring voluntary participation.
On 25th September 2025, IGNOU Srinagar carried out the Shramdaan activity titled “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” with the spirit of Jan Bhagidari. The event, held around the scenic Nigeen Lake in Srinagar, witnessed enthusiastic participation of IGNOU officials, staff, learners, and volunteers who joined hands for a one-hour cleanliness drive.
Participants focused on removal of plastic waste and litter, proper disposal of non-biodegradable items, and cleaning of public spaces. They also engaged with locals, spreading awareness about the importance of personal hygiene, environmental cleanliness, and civic responsibility. The activity concluded with a short reflection session where participants pledged to continue supporting the Swachh Bharat Mission in their daily lives.
Continuing the drive, on 26th September 2025, IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar, in collaboration with the Department of Ayush, Government of J&K, organized a Health Check-up Camp under the Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir initiative at Karhama village in Tangmarg, Baramulla. The camp, part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign, integrated health services with hygiene awareness, particularly targeting residents of remote and underserved areas.
A dedicated team of AYUSH doctors and health professionals conducted free medical check-ups, distributed medicines and preventive healthcare kits, and offered AYUSH-based consultations. Residents were also sensitized about sanitation, personal cleanliness, and environmental hygiene, linking health with cleanliness as part of a holistic approach to community well-being.
The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Mohd Abdullah, Assistant Regional Director, IGNOU Srinagar, along with Dr. Irfan and his team of AYUSH doctors. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Abdullah urged the public to adopt responsible waste disposal practices and maintain clean surroundings for better health outcomes. Dr. Irfan emphasized preventive healthcare and the importance of hygiene in reducing the burden of common ailments.
The initiatives saw active participation from local residents, community leaders, and IGNOU learners, who welcomed the outreach efforts and expressed appreciation for the accessible healthcare support provided at their doorstep.
Both events not only underlined IGNOU Srinagar’s commitment towards the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan but also showcased how collective participation can drive meaningful change in society by linking cleanliness with community health and well-being.
