SRINAGAR, Nov 1: Major General Tushar Sharma on Saturday formally took over the command of the Indian Army’s counter-terrorism formation, Kilo Force, which is responsible for leading anti-terror operations across North Kashmir’s sensitive districts.
A defence spokesperson said that Maj Gen Sharma became the 21st General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Kilo Force, succeeding Maj Gen Vivek Narang, who completed his tenure with the formation known for its crucial role in combating terrorism and maintaining internal security in the region.
Maj Gen Sharma, an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), brings with him a wealth of operational and leadership experience. Throughout his distinguished career, he has served in multiple command and staff roles in challenging terrains across the country, gaining extensive expertise in counter-terrorism operations.
After taking charge, Maj Gen Sharma visited the formation’s war memorial to pay homage to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. He laid floral wreaths at the memorial and interacted with officers and troops, commending their professionalism and dedication.
Addressing the ranks, the new GOC urged them to continue upholding the rich traditions of Kilo Force through discipline, integrity, and devotion to duty. He emphasised the need for high levels of operational preparedness to effectively counter any threat to peace and stability in North Kashmir.
“Major General Sharma stressed that vigilance, coordination, and readiness are vital to neutralize the designs of terrorist elements and ensure the continued safety of the region,” the defence spokesperson added.
Kilo Force forms a vital part of the Army’s counter-terrorism grid in Kashmir, working closely with police and other security agencies to dismantle terrorist networks and sustain peace across the northern districts of the Valley.
