JAMMU, Nov 13: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to play a proactive role in the collective fight against terrorism, asserting that while security forces are determined to dismantle the terror ecosystem, society too must shoulder its responsibilities to secure lasting peace and stability in the region.
Speaking at a special convocation ceremony at the University of Jammu, the Lieutenant Governor said that terrorism is a multifaceted challenge which cannot be defeated by security forces alone. He stressed that every citizen has a duty to recognize and report suspicious activities, counter radicalization efforts, and isolate those who sympathize with or support terrorism in any form.
Sinha warned that silence or indifference towards terror sympathisers could have grave consequences for the community’s stability and future. He said that if society fails to stand firmly against those who aid or shelter terrorists, it risks allowing extremism to become an existential threat that could destroy peace and progress.
Calling upon the “enlightened sections” of society to take a stand, the Lieutenant Governor said the need of the hour is to expose individuals or groups who provide shelter to terrorists or propagate extremist narratives. He emphasized that confronting such elements is not merely a matter of security, but a moral responsibility essential for preserving social harmony and the democratic fabric of Jammu and Kashmir.
Reflecting on the decades of turmoil the region has endured, Sinha said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have suffered deeply from the impact of terrorism for more than thirty years. However, he expressed optimism that the youth today are increasingly turning away from violence and aspiring for progress, education, and prosperity like their counterparts in other parts of the country.
The Lieutenant Governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to uprooting terrorism and dismantling its support structures. He noted that the security forces are working relentlessly to ensure a secure environment conducive to peace and development. At the same time, he underlined that success in this battle depends equally on public participation, awareness, and moral courage.
Sinha’s address served as a strong reminder that the fight against terrorism is not confined to security operations alone, but extends into every sphere of civic life. His remarks at the convocation echoed a larger message — that peace can only be sustained when society as a whole stands united against those who seek to disrupt it.
