SRINAGAR, Nov 26:
The District Judiciary Srinagar and the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar on Wednesday observed Constitution Day with great fervor and enthusiasm at the District Court Complex, Srinagar. The event, held under the directions of the Hon’ble High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and under the aegis of the J&K Legal Services Authority, brought together judicial officers, legal professionals, and court staff in a unified celebration of India’s constitutional values.
The commemoration took place under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and Patron-in-Chief of the J&K Legal Services Authority, along with Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Executive Chairman of the Authority. The programme was organized under the supervision of Mr. Haq Nawaz Zargar, Principal District & Sessions Judge and Chairman, DLSA Srinagar, and Ms. Shazia Tabassum, Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority.
The event witnessed the gracious presence of all Judicial Officers of the District Judiciary Srinagar, whose participation added dignity and solemnity to the occasion. Officers from the Prosecution Department, administrative staff, court officials, DLSA staff, Legal Aid Defence Counsels, Panel Lawyers, Para Legal Volunteers, and members of the Bar Association also took part, reflecting the inclusive spirit of the celebration.
The programme began with a collective reading of the Preamble to the Constitution, led by Mr. Haq Nawaz Zargar. Judicial Officers, Prosecuting Officers, officers and officials of the District Court and DLSA Srinagar, along with members of the Bar, joined the reading to reaffirm their commitment to the constitutional principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. The unified recitation not only marked reverence for the nation’s founding document but also symbolized the shared responsibility of the legal fraternity in upholding its values.
The observance of Constitution Day aimed to promote greater constitutional awareness among citizens, encouraging them to recognize and exercise their fundamental rights and responsibilities. The District Judiciary Srinagar and DLSA Srinagar reiterated their resolve to strengthen public legal literacy and continue initiatives that empower communities through accessible legal services.
Extending the celebration beyond the main court complex, a similar reading of the Preamble was conducted at the Court of the Additional Mobile Magistrate, Panthachowk. The session was led by Ms. Mainaaz Qadir, Additional Special Mobile Magistrate, along with court staff, ensuring district-wide participation in the Constitution Day observance.
The day-long programme underscored the judiciary’s commitment to safeguarding constitutional values and fostering an informed, rights-aware citizenry—core pillars that continue to guide the justice system in Jammu and Kashmir.
