LG Sinha unveils 108-ft national flag, honours martyrs of 1965 and 1971 wars

On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Shri Manoj Sinha on Monday unveiled a 108-feet high mast National Flag at Kachrial in Akhnoor, paying rich tributes to the bravery, valour and supreme sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces, especially the heroes of the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

The ceremony, held in a deeply patriotic atmosphere, served as a reminder of India’s historic victory and the unyielding courage of its soldiers. The Lieutenant Governor paid homage to the martyrs, soldiers and officers who brought glory to the nation through their extraordinary valour during the 1971 war. He also felicitated war veterans and Veer Naris, saluting their courage, resilience and lifelong contribution to the nation.

Highlighting the historical and emotional significance of Kachrial, the Lieutenant Governor described the area as a sacred land where the memory of fallen heroes continues to live on. He said that every inch of this soil bears testimony to the sacrifices of brave soldiers who laid down their lives while defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity during the 1965 and 1971 wars.

He congratulated Lieutenant General P.K. Mishra, General Officer Commanding, White Knight Corps (16 Corps), for the thoughtful initiative of installing the towering national flag at such a historically important location. The Lieutenant Governor said the installation of the 108-feet high mast Tricolour was a befitting tribute to the Armed Forces and a lasting symbol of national pride. He also appreciated the Flag Foundation of India for its commendable contribution to the initiative.

Expressing deep reverence for the national flag, Shri Manoj Sinha said the Tricolour is not merely a symbol but the embodiment of India’s freedom, dignity and the countless sacrifices made by its sons and daughters. He wished that the beloved and victorious Tricolour continues to fly high across the world, inspiring generations with the ideals of unity, courage and patriotism.

Calling for collective resolve, the Lieutenant Governor urged citizens to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of the Armed Forces and work together to realise the vision of a strong and prosperous nation. He said that marching forward with unity and determination was essential to achieving the goal of making India a Developed Nation.

The ceremony was attended by Shri Satish Sharma, Minister for Youth Services & Sports, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science & Technology, Information Technology, ARI & Trainings; Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command; Lieutenant General P.K. Mishra, GOC White Knight Corps (16 Corps); Major General H.S. Brar, GOC 10 RAPID; Brigadier Dayanand Sharma, Commander, Pallanwala Brigade; and Major General Ashim Kohli (Retd), Chief Executive Officer of the Flag Foundation of India, besides senior civil and military officials.

A large number of war veterans, Veer Naris, students and local residents were also present, lending solemnity and patriotic fervour to the Vijay Diwas celebrations and reaffirming collective gratitude to the nation’s brave hearts.
