JAMMU, Dec 31: The National Health Mission (NHM) Jammu & Kashmir under the dynamic leadership of Mission Director, Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, has delivered substantial public health gains in 2025 through sustained expansion of human resources, disease-control interventions, digital health services, mental-health support, and infrastructure upgrades, reinforcing its role as a backbone of healthcare delivery across the Union Territory.

A major milestone under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan saw 25 lakh people screened for tuberculosis across J&K in 2025, strengthening early detection and case management in the region.

Under the Pradhan Mantri – Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) and Emergency COVID Response Package (ECRP-II), NHM completed the civil structural work of six 50-bedded Critical Care Blocks (CCBs), adding critical emergency-care capacity to the public health system.

Through the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), NHM screened 27.27 lakh beneficiaries in the 0–18 years age group at schools and Anganwadi centres, ensuring early identification of health and developmental concerns among children and adolescents.

The mission also expanded access to mental-health care under Tele-MANAS, the Government of India’s national tele-mental health programme, recording 1.37 lakh tele-consultations so far, with a particular focus on youth wellbeing and psychosocial support.

Furthering its digital-health outreach, NHM enabled 4.06 lakh consultations via e-Sanjeevani, improving access to medical advice in remote, border, and underserved areas through facility-based telemedicine services.

Under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD), a record 1.61 crore people were screened for hypertension, diabetes, oral cancer, breast cancer, and cervical cancer, out of which 7.5 lakh individuals were enrolled for treatment, including patients placed on continued care for chronic conditions.

In a boost to quality benchmarks, 244 health facilities qualified under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) this year, while 1,000 additional facilities are currently under evaluation, with qualification targeted by March 2026.

Additionally, NHM expanded health access in vulnerable geographies by facilitating 4.06 lakh tele-consultations under e-Sanjeevani, serving populations in remote and border areas, ensuring continuity of care where physical access remains a challenge.

Legal stakeholders, healthcare workers, and community groups have credited NHM’s model for improving care equity, expanding service delivery, and reducing disease burden through integrated, technology-enabled, and infrastructure-driven healthcare interventions.

The year’s outcomes reaffirm NHM J&K’s continued push toward TB elimination, strengthened emergency care, expanded child health coverage, scaled mental-health support, digitised consultations, and improved facility quality standards, officials said. (KDC)
