ANANTNAG, Mar 7: In a moment of pride for the medical fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir, the Principal and Dean of Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, was honoured with an appreciation award by Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda in recognition of her outstanding and exemplary services in the healthcare sector.
The prestigious award was presented at a special ceremony organised in New Delhi on the occasion of Jan Aushadhi Diwas, celebrated annually under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), a flagship initiative aimed at making quality medicines available to the public at affordable prices.
Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb received the honour in the presence of several dignitaries, including Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Anupriya Patel, who attended the event as the Guest of Honour, and Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Manoj Joshi, who was present as the Special Guest.
The recognition was conferred after the PMBJP Kendra functioning under GMC Anantnag was selected among the Top Four Kendras across India for achieving the highest purchase of medicines under the scheme, reflecting the institution’s commitment to promoting affordable healthcare services.
According to the official invitation sent to the office of the Principal Medical College (PMC) Anantnag, the honour was bestowed as part of the celebrations marking Jan Aushadhi Diwas. The communication highlighted the exceptional performance of the PMBJP centre associated with GMC Anantnag.
The invitation read that the Kendra PMBJK09614 had been selected among the Top Four Kendras nationwide in terms of the highest procurement of medicines. It further stated that the award ceremony was being organised to acknowledge and appreciate the institution’s significant contribution towards advancing the vision of accessible and affordable medicines for all citizens.
“On the occasion of Jan Aushadhi Diwas, celebrated every year under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), we are pleased to inform you that your Kendra PMBJK09614 has been selected among the Top 4 Kendras for highest purchase in India,” the invitation mail read.
“In recognition of your outstanding contribution, you are cordially invited to attend the Award Ceremony to be graced by the Hon’ble Minister of Health, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda ji. Your presence at this ceremony is of utmost importance to us, as it will serve to acknowledge and appreciate your dedicated efforts in furthering the vision of affordable and accessible medicines for all,” it added.
The award ceremony recognised institutions and centres that have played a significant role in strengthening the objectives of the PMBJP scheme, which aims to provide quality generic medicines to the masses at substantially lower prices through dedicated Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country.
Soon after the news of the recognition reached GMC Anantnag, it sparked a wave of jubilation among the faculty members, doctors, and staff of the institution. The official WhatsApp group of GMC Anantnag was flooded with congratulatory messages from colleagues, faculty members, and administrative staff, who hailed the achievement as a collective honour for the entire institution.
Members of the medical fraternity described the recognition as a proud moment not only for GMC Anantnag but also for the healthcare community of the region, acknowledging the dedication and leadership of Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb in promoting accessible healthcare services.
