KARNAH-KUPWARA, May 10: A major Cancer Screening and Multi-Speciality Medical Camp was organised at Sub District Hospital Karnah by the Indian Army and District Administration Kupwara in collaboration with Quality Healthcare Hospital, bringing specialised healthcare services to the far-flung border region of Karnah in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The large-scale humanitarian and healthcare initiative witnessed an overwhelming response from local residents, with more than 300 people availing themselves of medical consultations, screening facilities and specialised treatment services during the day-long camp. The initiative aimed at improving access to advanced healthcare facilities for people living in remote and difficult-to-access areas along the Line of Control (LoC), where access to specialised medical care often remains limited.
A distinguished team of four experienced oncologists from Delhi formed the core of the camp’s specialised cancer care programme. The medical experts conducted detailed cancer screening examinations for over 20 patients, many of whom had either reported symptoms requiring evaluation or had been referred for preventive screening.
In addition to fresh screenings, the doctors also examined patients already undergoing treatment for cancer, offering them medical guidance, counselling and follow-up advice regarding their ongoing treatment and recovery.
The camp proved particularly significant for residents who otherwise have to travel long distances to larger cities for specialised consultations. Patients and their families interacted directly with expert doctors, receiving detailed medical advice and reassurance closer to home.
Apart from oncology services, the camp also offered consultations and treatment in multiple medical specialities including Gynaecology, Dentistry, Dermatology and Audiometry. Specialist doctors examined patients suffering from a wide range of ailments and provided immediate medical assistance, prescriptions and guidance for further treatment wherever necessary.
For many villagers from remote areas of Karnah, the camp became a rare opportunity to access quality healthcare facilities without the financial and logistical burden of travelling outside the region.
Women, elderly patients and individuals suffering from chronic illnesses especially benefited from the outreach programme.
The initiative highlighted the continued efforts of the Indian Army and civil administration in extending welfare and public healthcare services to border populations living in geographically challenging areas.
Medical camps of this nature not only strengthen healthcare accessibility but also create awareness regarding early diagnosis and preventive healthcare, particularly in the case of life-threatening diseases such as cancer.
Residents of Karnah expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Army, District Administration Kupwara and the organising agencies for conducting the camp and ensuring the availability of specialised medical expertise in the region. Locals described the initiative as a much-needed relief for patients struggling with serious illnesses and appreciated the sustained outreach efforts being undertaken in the border belt.
The camp was widely hailed as a meaningful humanitarian initiative that brought hope, relief and reassurance to hundreds of families, reaffirming the importance of coordinated healthcare outreach programmes in remote and untouched regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
