JAMMU, June 2:The Jammu and Kashmir Transport Department has cancelled the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Licence granted to cab service provider Ola, citing non-compliance with licensing conditions and failure to operationalise its registered branch office in Jammu.
According to official reports, the licence was revoked by Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan after an inspection found the company’s registered office in Jammu to be non-functional and non-traceable. Authorities said repeated notices were issued to the company, but the required compliance was not ensured.
With the cancellation taking immediate effect, Ola will no longer be authorised to operate as a motor vehicle aggregator in the Union Territory unless it obtains fresh permission in accordance with the prescribed regulations.
Meanwhile, reports said that permission for another aggregator service, Rapido, is currently under process with the Transport Department.
The move is being viewed as part of the government’s efforts to ensure strict adherence to regulatory norms by app-based transport operators functioning in Jammu and Kashmir.
