Srinagar, June 02: Director General, Rural Sanitation, Jammu & Kashmir, Ms Anoo Malhotra today visited Vibrant Village Makwal under the Vibrant Village Programme-II and reviewed the developmental requirements and public welfare initiatives being implemented in the border village.
During the visit, the Director General interacted with officers and personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) stationed in the area.
A public interaction programme was held at Middle School #Makwal in the presence of district and sectoral officers, where local residents put forth a number of developmental demands and suggestions.
The villagers emphasized the need for construction of community bunkers to ensure public safety during emergency situations. They also requested installation of dustbins at prominent locations to promote cleanliness and strengthen solid waste management practices in the village.
Among other demands, the residents sought deployment of additional e-buses to improve transportation facilities and connectivity with adjoining areas. They also requested the establishment of a selfie point at Makwal to promote tourism and showcase the unique identity and scenic appeal of the border village.
The Director General assured both the BSF authorities and local residents that all genuine concerns and demands would be examined in coordination with the concerned departments for appropriate action.
She called for effective implementation of Solid Waste Management (SWM) rules 2026 and appealed people to participate in large numbers in the ongoing #SwachhGaonSurakshitJalvayu campaign which culminates on June 5, on the eve of World Environment Day.
Ms Malhotra appreciated the active participation of the local community and reiterated the Government’s commitment towards the holistic development of Vibrant Villages and the improvement of the quality of life of border residents.
The visit concluded with a comprehensive review of ongoing developmental initiatives and a reaffirmation of the Government’s resolve to strengthen infrastructure, sanitation, connectivity, and public amenities in Vibrant Village Makwal.
Among others present on the occasion were the Assistant Commissioner Panchayat (ACP) Jammu, Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Jammu, Block Development Officer (BDO) Mandal, Tehsildar Mandal, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Sohanjana, Agriculture Extension Officer (AEO), elected Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) representatives, prominent citizens, and officials from the Rural Development Department and various line departments.
