Pune, June 24: Investigators probing the murder of a Pune businessman have revealed that the prime accused, Siya Goyal, allegedly met her lover, Chetan Chaudhary, at a café just hours before the killing of her fiancé, Ketan Agarwal, to finalise the murder plot. Police say the meeting took place on the morning of June 18, the day Agarwal died after falling into a gorge at Lohagad Fort near Pune.
According to Pune Rural Police, Goyal and Chaudhary were in regular contact and had exchanged more than 2,000 phone calls over the past several months. Investigators suspect the pair frequently met at a café where discussions related to the murder conspiracy took place.
Police allege that Goyal, who was engaged to Agarwal and scheduled to marry him later this year, was involved in a relationship with Chaudhary and viewed her fiancé as an obstacle. The two allegedly planned multiple attempts to eliminate Agarwal before succeeding on June 18.
Agarwal’s death was initially reported as an accidental fall during a trek at Lohagad Fort. However, suspicion raised by family members and subsequent investigation led police to conclude that he had been deliberately pushed into a deep gorge. Authorities later arrested Goyal and Chaudhary on murder charges.
Investigators claim there were at least three earlier failed attempts to kill Agarwal at the same fort. One alleged attempt on May 31 failed when the victim survived a fall, while subsequent plans were reportedly abandoned due to logistical reasons, including the presence of large crowds.
A Pune court has remanded both accused to police custody until June 29 as investigators continue to examine digital evidence, call records and witness statements linked to the case.
