Srinagar, June 29: Chairman of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly Committee on Environment and CPI(M) MLA M.Y. Tarigami has welcomed the Deputy Commissioner Kulgam’s decision to strictly enforce the ban on single-use plastic and polythene carry bags in the district through a public notice.
Tarigami termed the initiative a significant step towards environmental protection and appealed to all Deputy Commissioners and the Jammu & Kashmir administration to adopt similar measures to make the Union Territory completely free from single-use plastic.
He recalled that during the Committee on Environment meeting held on June 18, 2026, the Committee had urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to issue an executive order imposing a complete ban on single-use plastic across Jammu & Kashmir, emphasizing that coordinated action is essential to safeguard the environment and public health
