Ganderbal, July 2: The death of a 35-year-old woman, who was found hanging at her residence in the Waliwar area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Thursday, has sparked allegations from her son and maternal family, who have accused her husband of being responsible for her death.
According to officials, the woman was found hanging inside her house during the day. Police were immediately informed and rushed to the spot. The body was taken into custody and shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examination and other medico-legal formalities.Police have initiated inquest proceedings and registered a case under relevant legal provisions. Officials said a detailed investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the woman’s death.
Soon after the incident, the deceased’s son and members of her maternal family alleged that the husband had subjected her to circumstances that resulted in her death. They demanded a fair, impartial and time-bound investigation and sought strict legal action if any wrongdoing is established.
The allegations made by the family have not been independently verified, and no official conclusion has been reached regarding the cause of death.
A police official said all aspects of the case, including the allegations levelled by the deceased’s family, are being thoroughly examined. Investigators are recording statements of family members and other concerned persons, while forensic and medico-legal evidence will also form part of the investigation.
Officials said the exact cause and manner of the woman’s death will be established only after the completion of the investigation and receipt of the post-mortem and other forensic reports.
Police have appealed to the public not to speculate about the incident and said appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
