Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Reviewed Ahmedabad’s Development and Railway Infrastructure Projects

New Delhi: Upon the arrival of Central Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, at Ahmedabad Airport today, public representatives and office-bearers of Ahmedabad metropolitan city welcomed him. On this occasion, a detailed discussion took place regarding various development works related to the City and Railway Infrastructure.

During the meeting, the Central Minister stated that the work on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project is progressing at a rapid pace and approximately 80 percent of the project work has been completed. He expressed confidence that in the year 2027, the first phase of the bullet train service will be commenced on the Surat–Bilimora section. Following this, the project will be progressively extended to Vapi–Surat, Ahmedabad, and ultimately up to Mumbai.

The Central Minister said that the Central Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, is committed to developing world-class railway infrastructure, modern stations, better road connectivity, and state-of-the-art transport facilities across Gujarat, including Ahmedabad. The completion of these projects will enhance passenger convenience, ease urban traffic, and give a new impetus to the overall economic and social development of the region.

Following the meeting, Central Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that today is a historic day for India’s semiconductor manufacturing sector. He informed that Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the country’s third semiconductor plant in Sanand today. Prior to this, the foundation for two other semiconductor projects in Sanand had already been launched by the Prime Minister on February 28 and March 31.

During the meeting, Decisions were taken on the Following Five Major Development Works related to Ahmedabad City and the Railways —

1. Acceleration of Omnagar Underpass (ROB) Work

The Central Minister instructed officials to ensure that the remaining work on the Omnagar Underpass is completed under all circumstances before the upcoming Navratri festival, so that traffic facilities can be made available to citizens at the earliest.

2. Comprehensive Redevelopment of Asarva Station and Terminal

Keeping in view the historical and cultural significance of the Asarva area, a comprehensive master plan has been prepared for Asarva Station. Under this, it will be developed into a modern and well-organized terminal through the integrated development of a new station building, modern passenger amenities, and the surrounding railway area including the DRM office.

 

3. Second Entry Gate Towards Sarangpur at Ahmedabad Station

Under the redevelopment of Ahmedabad Railway Station, an agreement was also reached on developing a second entry gate and road connectivity from the Sarangpur direction. This will provide passengers with better and smoother access to the station, and enable proper development of the surrounding area.

4. Shahpur–Ahmedabad Flyover Project

Regarding the construction of the Shahpur–Ahmedabad Flyover, it was decided to establish the necessary coordination on matters related to Indian Archaeology and National Monuments Protection. The Central Minister informed that discussions have been held with the Central Culture Minister regarding this, and the project will be moved forward after obtaining all necessary permissions.

5. Sabarmati Station Road Extension

With the aim of providing better road connectivity to Sabarmati Railway Station, an agreement was reached to prepare a joint action plan for the expansion and overall development of the station road. This will provide better commuting facilities for passengers and local citizens.

The meeting was attended by Ahmedabad City BJP President Shri Prerakbhai Shah, General Secretary Shri Darshak Thaker, Shri Gautambhai Kathiriya, Shri Umangbhai Nayak, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Mayor Shri Hiteshbhai Barot, Deputy Mayor Smt. Anjuben Shah, Standing Committee Chairman Shri Kamleshbhai Patel, BJP Leader in the Municipal Corporation Shri Jashubhai Thakor, Chief Whip Shri Atulbhai Mishra, and Councilor Shri Sunny Khanchandani, along with other public representatives and workers.
