Srinagar, July 6: The District Magistrate of Shopian has imposed a two-month restriction on the bursting of firecrackers between 10 pm and 6 am, citing security, public health and noise pollution concerns.
According to the order, the restriction also prohibits the use of firecrackers in silent zones, including areas around hospitals, educational institutions, courts and other places notified under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules.
The administration said the measure has been taken to safeguard public health, maintain peace and ensure public safety. Authorities noted that loud explosions during late-night hours can create panic, disturb patients, students and elderly residents, and pose challenges to law enforcement agencies, particularly in the prevailing security environment.
The order will remain in force for two months unless modified or withdrawn earlier.
Officials have directed the police and other enforcement agencies to ensure strict implementation of the restrictions. Violators will face action under the relevant provisions of law.
The administration has appealed to residents to cooperate with the order and celebrate social and religious occasions responsibly while avoiding activities that may disturb public peace or endanger public safety.
The latest directive comes as authorities across Jammu and Kashmir continue to enforce measures aimed at reducing noise pollution and strengthening public safety in sensitive areas.
