Srinagar, July 30: The Ministry of Education has appointed Prof. Anurag Misra, a senior faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Jammu, as the new Director of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, ending a gap of more than two years without a full-time head at the institute.
According to an order issued by the Department of Higher Education on July 29, the appointment has been made by the President of India in her capacity as the Visitor of the National Institutes of Technology. Prof. Misra has been appointed for a tenure of five years from the date he assumes charge or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.
The Ministry has directed the Director of IIT Jammu to relieve Prof. Misra at the earliest to enable him to take charge at NIT Srinagar. It has also instructed Director-in-Charge Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia to hand over charge to the newly appointed director.
Prof. Misra brings more than three decades of experience in academia, research and the infrastructure sector. He has served as Dean of Infrastructure Planning and Management at IIT Jammu and previously held key academic and industry positions, including Professor and Head of Structural Engineering at MNIT Jaipur and Chief Executive Officer in the infrastructure sector. His research focuses on sustainable construction materials, low-carbon cement, concrete durability and non-destructive testing.
The appointment fills a key academic and administrative position that had remained vacant after the previous regular director returned to his parent institution within months of assuming office, with the institute functioning under interim leadership since then.
