Srinagar, July 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved an ₹18.96 crore water supply project for Pulwama town, a move aimed at strengthening drinking water infrastructure and addressing the long-standing water scarcity faced by residents.
Announcing the development on Thursday, Pulwama MLA Waheed Ur Rehman Para said the project received administrative approval under Government Order No. 61-JK (HUD) of 2026 at an estimated cost of ₹18.96 crore (₹1,896.31 lakh) under the Urban Development Sector (DULBK) Capex Budget.
Para described the approval as a major milestone in addressing one of Pulwama’s most pressing civic issues, saying that ensuring a reliable supply of safe drinking water has remained among his top priorities since assuming office. He added that he had consistently pursued the project with the government and the Housing and Urban Development Department over the past two years to secure a long-term solution for the town’s growing water needs.
He also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Housing and Urban Development Department Commissioner Secretary Mandeep Kaur for approving the project.
The scheme is expected to significantly improve drinking water supply in Pulwama town and provide lasting relief to residents who have been grappling with persistent water shortages.
