Gurez, Aug 13: As part of the ongoing Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, the Indian Army on Thursday hoisted a 120-foot-high National Flag at one of the last border villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez Valley of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
The event was organised ahead of Independence Day and also marked the commemoration of 150 years of “Vande Mataram.”
The Tricolour was dedicated to the people of Gurez as a symbol of national pride, unity and patriotism. The ceremony was held close to the LoC and witnessed participation from local residents and others.
Meanwhile, security has been put on high alert across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Independence Day on August 15. Security forces have intensified surveillance and are maintaining heightened vigil along sensitive areas to ensure peaceful conduct of the celebrations.
The flag-hoisting ceremony is part of a series of activities being organised across Jammu and Kashmir under the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign to encourage people to participate in Independence Day celebrations.
The 120-foot-high Tricolour now stands as a prominent national symbol in the strategically located Gurez Valley, which shares a sensitive border with Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
Security forces have also stepped up area domination and monitoring in border areas as part of the heightened security arrangements ahead of Independence Day.
The Army has been organising various community outreach and national integration programmes in border areas, with the Gurez event aimed at strengthening the spirit of unity and patriotism among residents.
Independence Day will be celebrated across Jammu and Kashmir on August 15, with elaborate security arrangements and programmes planned across the Union Territory.
