Pulwama, Aug 18: Pulwama is set to host the second edition of the day and night Royal Premier League cricket tournament from August 19 at Sports Stadium Pulwama, with ten teams from different parts of the Valley set to take part.
The participating teams include Sultan Warriors Baramulla, The Real Sultan Sumerbugh, Al Noor Kings, Bhat Lions Kupwara, Valley Star Ganderbal, Murad Cricket Club, Al Fallah Cricket Club, United Imports Srinagar, Valley Fresh Cold Chain and Royal Goodwill Cricket Club.
Residents have welcomed the return of the tournament and expressed support for sporting activities but they have urged the administration to make adequate arrangements for traffic management and public convenience during the matches.
“We fully support sports and such initiatives but the convenience and safety of the general public should also be taken into consideration, a resident said.
Residents said that last year’s day and night matches resulted in considerable traffic congestion, particularly from Murran Chowk to the stadium. They said roads were heavily affected, making it difficult for commuters and local residents to reach their homes.
“Last year, there was considerable chaos and traffic congestion. Many people returning from work struggled to reach their homes, mukhtar Ahmad said.
They have now urged the district administration and traffic authorities to make adequate arrangements in advance, so that the event can be conducted smoothly without causing unnecessary inconvenience to local residents .
