Shopian, Aug 29: Former Jammu and Kashmir minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Ghulam Hassan Khan passed away after a prolonged illness in Shopian district on Saturday evening.
Khan, who had been unwell for some time, breathed his last in south Kashmir, according to reports.
He was elected to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in 2002 and later served as Minister of State for Social Welfare in the state government.
Khan subsequently parted ways with the PDP and contested the 2008 Assembly elections as an independent candidate.
His death was mourned by political colleagues and people from the region, who remembered him for his contribution to public life.
Khan was a resident of Shopian, and his last rites are scheduled to be performed at his ancestral graveyard in the district.
