5,000 Food Relief Kits Distributed Across Affected Areas; CM Omar Abdullah Flags Off Relief Initiative
Jammu: The Akshaya Patra Foundation has extended support to families affected by the recent floods in Jammu and Kashmir by distributing nearly 5,000 food relief kits across several affected areas of the Union Territory.
The relief initiative was symbolically launched by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who handed over food relief kits to district administration officials for further distribution. Balaji M.N., CFO of The Akshaya Patra Foundation, along with several legislators and public representatives, was also present on the occasion.
As part of the relief drive, food kits were distributed among affected families in Rajouri, Budhal, Surankote, Mendhar, Thanamandi and Reasi, among other areas.
The Akshaya Patra Foundation had also undertaken a relief initiative during Operation Sindoor last year, distributing its ‘Gaurav Hamara Kits’ to provide essential food supplies to affected families.
Speaking about the initiative, Govind Datta Das, Jammu & Kashmir Cluster Head, The Akshaya Patra Foundation, said, “Reaching flood-affected families with food and essential supplies is not merely a relief activity for us; it is an opportunity to serve. Akshaya Patra is continuously working towards providing nutritious mid-day meals to children in Jammu and Kashmir. Our endeavour is to strengthen children’s nutrition and education through food while expanding this spirit of service across Jammu and Kashmir.”
The Foundation currently provides meals under the PM POSHAN Scheme to more than 2.3 million children in government schools across 16 states and three Union Territories. It is also working towards extending the benefits of its mid-day meal programme to children in Jammu and Kashmir.
As part of these efforts, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha recently inaugurated the construction work of an Akshaya Patra kitchen in Katra, marking an important step towards strengthening the Foundation’s food support infrastructure in the region.
Apart from its school meal programme, The Akshaya Patra Foundation has regularly undertaken relief operations during natural disasters and emergencies, reaching vulnerable communities with cooked meals, food supplies and other essential relief material.
