Higher Reaches Receive Fresh Snow; Rainfall Recorded Across Parts of Kashmir Valley

SONAMARG, SEPTEMBER 17: Fresh snowfall was recorded on Thursday in the higher reaches of Zojila Pass and at Zero Point near Sonamarg in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, bringing a noticeable change in weather conditions across the mountainous belt.
The snowfall was reported from the upper reaches amid a fall in temperatures, covering portions of the high-altitude landscape with a fresh layer of snow and giving the area a distinctly wintry appearance.
Weather conditions also remained unsettled in several parts of the Kashmir Valley, where intermittent rainfall was reported during the day.
The combination of rain in the plains and snowfall in the higher reaches marked a further shift towards colder conditions in the region.
The latest snowfall has also raised concerns over travel conditions along high-altitude stretches, particularly on routes towards Zojila Pass.
Sudden changes in weather, reduced visibility and slippery road surfaces can pose challenges to motorists travelling through these areas.
Travellers heading towards Sonamarg and Zojila have been urged to remain cautious and check the latest weather and road advisories before proceeding towards the higher reaches.
Meanwhile, the fresh snowfall has transformed the landscape around Zojila and Zero Point, adding a winter-like character to the scenic Sonamarg belt.
