Srinagar/Jammu, Sept 27th: Bank employees and officers across the country are scheduled to observe a three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to 30, in support of their longstanding demand for the introduction of a five-day working week in the banking sector.
The strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), which has consistently advocated the implementation of a five-day work schedule for banking personnel.
In Jammu and Kashmir, banking employees and officers will conduct demonstrations at 10:30 a.m. on September 28, 29 and 30 at the parking area situated between the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the State Bank of India (SBI) Administrative Office.
The All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC) and the State Bank of India Officers Association have extended their support to the protest programme and appealed to their members to participate in the demonstrations.
The unions have reiterated that the introduction of a five-day working week remains a long-pending and legitimate demand of the banking community, and have urged the authorities to implement it without further delay.
The proposed three-day strike is expected to disrupt routine banking operations and affect the delivery of normal banking services across the country during the period of the agitation.
Raising the slogan “Five-Day Work Week – Our Right, Our Demand,” the unions reaffirmed their determination to pursue the demand for a five-day working schedule.
