SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 28: BJP legislators disrupted Question Hour in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday, demanding the removal of Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather and raising objections over the conduct of proceedings.
The BJP members staged a protest inside the House and raised slogans, disrupting the scheduled Question Hour. The party has been repeatedly raising concerns over issues including power tariffs, regularisation of employees and demands of various categories of workers during the ongoing Assembly session.
The protests led to noisy scenes in the Assembly as BJP legislators pressed their demands and questioned the functioning of the House under Speaker Rather.
The developments come amid continuing confrontations between the opposition BJP and the ruling coalition during the autumn session of the J&K Assembly. On earlier occasions during the session, BJP members had entered the well of the House while raising public issues, including the rollback of power tariff hikes, regularisation of daily wagers and demands of NHM, ASHA and other workers.
The opposition has also been pressing the government on employment, electricity and other public issues, while members of the ruling coalition have raised the demand for restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
The latest disruption adds to the political friction inside the Assembly, with proceedings repeatedly witnessing protests and counter-slogans between opposition and treasury-bench members.
