Srinagar, October 5: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday prorogued the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly with effect from October 5, according to a bulletin issued by the Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
Sinha exercised the powers conferred under Clause (a) of Sub-section (2) of Section 18 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, to prorogue the Assembly, the bulletin said.
The order, dated October 5, was signed by the Lieutenant Governor and circulated to members of the Legislative Assembly, senior Jammu and Kashmir government officials, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Election Commission of India, among others.
The bulletin directed the Director of Information, J&K Government, to have its contents published in leading English, Urdu and Hindi newspapers from Srinagar and Jammu.
Doordarshan and All India Radio stations in Srinagar and Jammu were also asked to broadcast the contents of the bulletin in their news bulletins.
Copies of the order were also sent to the Chief Minister, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister, ministers, Leader of Opposition and other senior government functionaries for information.
