SRINAGAR, Oct 7: Former President of the Municipal Council, Baramulla, Omar Kakroo on Wednesday called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and raised various developmental issues concerning Baramulla.
Kakroo apprised the Lieutenant Governor of a range of development-related concerns and sought appropriate attention to issues requiring intervention. The meeting focused on the developmental needs of Baramulla and the importance of continued efforts to strengthen infrastructure and public services in the area.
Later, a delegation of the J&K Handloom Cooperative Societies and Weavers Association, headed by its President Ghulam Jeelani Zargar, also called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and submitted a memorandum seeking dedicated measures for the growth and promotion of the handloom sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
The delegation highlighted the concerns of handloom cooperative societies and weavers and sought focused measures to strengthen the sector, improve opportunities for artisans and provide greater institutional support to handloom-related activities.
The representatives stressed the need for a comprehensive approach towards the promotion of the handloom sector, including measures aimed at strengthening cooperative societies, supporting weavers and expanding opportunities for the traditional craft.
Handloom remains an important source of livelihood for artisan communities and has significant potential to generate employment while preserving Jammu and Kashmir’s traditional weaving skills and craftsmanship.
The memorandum sought dedicated government attention towards creating a stronger and more sustainable ecosystem for the handloom sector in the Union Territory.
The Lieutenant Governor heard the issues and demands put forth by both the visiting representatives.
