Srinagar, Aug 26: Five suspected terror associates were arrested and a cache of arms and ammunition was recovered during a joint search operation in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said.
The operation was carried out by Kulgam Police, the Army’s 9 Rashtriya Rifles and the 18th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the Bugam Orchard area of the district, officials said.
According to officials, the joint team launched the operation based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of suspected terror associates in the area.
During the search, security forces apprehended five individuals and recovered four 9mm pistols, four pistol magazines, 22 rounds of 9mm ammunition and two hand grenades, officials said.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Furkhan Ahmad Wani, 22, of Bugam; Sohaib Ahmad Pala, 20, of Bugam; Salman Abbas Lone, 20, of Bugam; Nidash Ahmad Reshi, 22, of Nanibugh; and Faizal Akbar, 30, of Redwani Payeen, according to a report citing officials.
The recovered weapons and ammunition have been seized, and further investigation has been initiated to establish the alleged links and circumstances surrounding the recovery.
Officials said the investigation is underway.
