J&K Circle highlights financial inclusion, digital transformation and support for local businesses
Srinagar, Oct 9th: India Post is observing National Postal Week from October 9 to 15, beginning with World Post Day, which marks the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874.
Addressing the media at Srinagar GPO Complex, Chief Postmaster General, J&K Circle, Shri Sagar Hanuman Singh, extended greetings to the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and reiterated India Post’s commitment to accessible, technology-driven postal, banking, insurance and citizen-centric services.
He highlighted the Department’s extensive network across urban, rural, border and remote areas, including Doda, Kishtwar, Gurez, Keran and Zanskar. India Post has opened over 17 lakh Post Office Savings Bank accounts in Jammu and Kashmir, while digital banking, e-KYC, India Post Payments Bank and doorstep banking services continue to strengthen financial inclusion.
Shri Singh said modernisation through digital platforms, tracking facilities and computerised operations has enhanced customer convenience. Services include Speed Post, parcel logistics, Aadhaar enrolment and updates, Postal Life Insurance, passport services and delivery of PMEGP kits to beneficiaries.
He also underlined the importance of Dak Ghar Niryat Kendra in helping artisans, exporters, MSMEs and small businesses reach international markets through export documentation, customs clearance, packaging and tracking support. Local products such as saffron, walnuts, Pashmina, carpets and handicrafts can benefit from these facilities. He further highlighted the Department’s reported 99 per cent insurance claim settlement rate.
Emphasising cultural preservation, Shri Singh noted that J&K Circle has highlighted 32 commemorative stamps and special covers featuring the region’s heritage, including the Chinar tree, Hangul, Pashmina, Mehjoor and Sindhu Darshan.
He encouraged citizens to participate in the annual Dhai Akhar Letter Writing Competition, with October 31, 2026, as the last date for submissions.
Acknowledging the dedication of postal employees, Shri Singh reaffirmed India Post’s resolve to combine modern technology with its longstanding tradition of trust and public service, ensuring reliable delivery of essential services across Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
