The Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Athar Aamir Khan, visited SKIMS Medical College, Bemina on 19/10/2026, and chaired a meeting where issues regarding Maternal and Child Health services were discussed to further strengthen patient care at the institution.
The meeting was attended by Principal, SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, Prof. (Dr.) Fazl Q. Parray; Medical Superintendent, Dr. Shafa Deva; various Heads of Departments/ faculty members of SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Bemina, and officers from the National Health Mission, including Dr. Jitendar Mehta, Programme Manager, Dr. Mushtaq, Programme Manager and Dr. Bisma, Programme Manager.
During the meeting, the Medical Superintendent presented a detailed overview of the issues and requirements pertaining to Maternal and Child Health services, highlighting areas requiring attention and support for improving the quality of patient care.
Mr. Athar Aamir Khan, assured the institution of all possible support from NHM to address the identified issues and strengthen healthcare delivery, particularly in the areas of maternal and child health.
Following the meeting, the Mission Director, accompanied by the SKIMS Medical College team and NHM officials, conducted a detailed inspection of the Critical Care Block being constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM)<span;>.<span;> During the inspection, he reviewed the progress of the ongoing construction work and issued strict directions to the executing agency to expedite the pace of work and ensure timely completion of the project.
The Mission Director also inspected the Labour Room, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Gynaecology Ward to assess the existing facilities and took stock of the requirements for improving service delivery. He interacted with the patients and concerned staff and reiterated NHM’s commitment to extending all possible assistance to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services and ensure better patient care.
The visit underscored the importance of coordinated efforts between NHM and SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, in strengthening healthcare infrastructure, improving service delivery and ensuring quality healthcare for mothers, newborns and children. Principal, SKIMS Medical College Bemina thanked Mr. Athar Aamir Khan, MD, NHM for his concern for the system and expressed gratitude.
