New Delhi: Defence Electronics Applications Laboratory (DEAL) in association with IEEE UP Section and Society of Wireless Engineers ( SWiCE) is conducting 1st International Conference “Wireless Communication for Military Applications WiCOMM-26 ” on 30 and 31 October 2026 at Dehradun. DEAL is the Dehradun based laboratory of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The Conference was inaugurated by Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Member NITI Aayog in presence of Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Member National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) and Dr BK Das Distinguished Scientist & Director General (Electronics and Communication Systems), DRDO. The conference provides an ideal platform for Researchers, DRDO Scientists, Industry Professionals, Defence Personnel and Students to deliberate and discuss emerging trends in wireless communication technology for military domain.
In his inaugural address, Prof Abhay Karandikar highlighted the importance of resilient communication system for situational awareness, coordinated manoeuvres and integrated decision making in defence forces in addition to voice communication. Tactical communication places stringent requirements as compared to civil communication in terms of QoS, EMI/EMC, interference, intermittent links and power constraints. He lauded the efforts of DEAL in SDR technology development and advised to take lead for development of integrated communication devices for tactical communication enabled for SDR and other Radio Technologies. He called for increased collaboration among academia, research institutions and industry to bring the indigenous world class products.
The two day conference features plenary and keynote talks by renowned experts of wireless communication from India and abroad like Dr Goutam Chattopadhyay, Senior Scientist NASA JPL USA, Dr John Glossner, CEO Wireless Innovation Forum USA, Mr Hari Kumar R, Director R&D BEL, Dr (Mrs) Chandrika Kaushik, DS & DG(PC&SI) DRDO, Dr Vijay Kumar Mishra, Senior Fellow, US DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory ARL USA, Dr Shreyas Kumar, Professor Texas A&M University USA, Dr MH Rahaman, Advisor at CRENES, BITS Pilani.
During Conference, 103 peer reviewed papers will be presented in six different tracks like communication and signal processing, RF & Optical Communication, Antenna Phased Array & Meta Surfaces, Computing Technologies and Applications etc. These sessions will provide participants an opportunity to exchange, showcase and highlight key advances in different sub domains of wireless communication system.
The conference also features an exhibition wherein leading Indian Industry companies working in the field of communication system, test & instrumentation, Software Development exhibited their solutions, systems and products.
