Srinagar, November 5: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has ordered an immediate suspension of all ongoing construction activities across 35 wards of Srinagar city until building permissions and approved plans are verified.
The directions have been issued through separate circulars by Enforcement Officers of the North/East, West and South zones, instructing Ward Officers to ensure that no construction activity is carried out in their respective areas until further orders.
As per the instructions, property owners claiming to have valid building permissions will also be required to produce relevant documents before the authorities for physical verification and scrutiny.
The order covers all 35 wards of the city, including Ward Nos. 1 to 17 in the North/East zone, 18 to 26 in the West zone and 27 to 35 in the South zone.
The action follows a review meeting chaired by the SMC Commissioner, during which officials were directed to take stringent measures against unauthorised construction and ensure strict adherence to approved building regulations.
Ward Officers have been instructed to conduct inspections along with Building Inspectors and other supervisory staff to identify illegal construction activities, including those being undertaken without proper approval or concealed from the authorities.
The civic body has also fixed responsibility on concerned field officials, holding Ward Officers, Building Inspectors and supervisory staff accountable for violations within their respective jurisdictions.
The circulars further warn that officials found negligent in implementing the directions or failing to prevent unauthorised construction will face departmental and disciplinary action.
