Anganwari workers, helpers protest in Handwara, demand revocation of recent Govt order

Date:

Srinagar, Jul 11 : Anganwari workers of Rajwar Zone on Thursday staged a sit-in protest in Chinar Park Handwara and demanded revocation of the government order to get the salary from Sarpanchs and Panchs.

They strongly opposed the decision taken in State Administrative Council (SAC) under the chairmanship of Governor Satya Pal Malik to release wages of Anganwadi workers and helpers after obtaining certificate from concerned Sarpanch/Councilors every month.

The Anganwadi workers and helpers of zone Rajwar alleged that this unjustified decision would further increase exploitation of the womenfolk in ICDS wing of Social Welfare Department.

“It is a question of our dignity. We are not going to knock on the doors of a Sarpanch and ask for our money. We can’t let ourselves be monitored by Panches or Sarpanches,” said an Anganwadi worker.

ICDS President Zone Rajwar Shakeela Ahanger said that they will work under Sarpanches but getting salaries from them is condemnable. (KNS)
