Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who was taken into custody the night before the scrapping of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, was Friday shifted to a government accomdation from Chashme Shahi in view of winter.
“Mehbooba has been shifted to a house with proper heating facilities. She had been complaining of chilly conditions lately,” an official said.
On November 5, Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter had asked the administration to shift her mother to a place equipped to deal with the Valley’s harsh winters given Mehbooba Mufti’s health issues.
The Centre will be responsible if anything happens to Mehbooba, the president of the PDP, Iltija Mufti had written in a letter to the Srinagar deputy commissioner.
“As you are aware my mother Ms Mehbooba Mufti, former CM J&K has been jailed since 5 August. A doctor recently ran multiple tests on her as she was not keeping well. As per those tests, her Vitamin D, hemoglobin and Calcium levels are low,” Iltija Mufti had written in the letter.
“The accommodation she is currently lodged in is not equipped for Kashmir’s harsh winters. Keeping in mind these points, I would like to request you to shift her to another location more suitable. I hope you will address this problem urgently,” the PDP leader’s daughter had said.
However, National Conference Party chief Farooq Abdullah, is under detention at his Gupkar residence.
Omar Abdullah — who is under precautionary confinement too — will remain in Hari Niwas, the official said.
Kashmir received snowfall earlier than usual this year, and the weather department has predicted a particularly cold winter. The harshest period of the season – termed as the Chillai Kalan – runs for 40 days from December 21 to January 31.
