Sopore Village Surviving in Dark Age

No government Help Or Support For This Village: Residents

Sopore, Mar 10 : Trumbgund a village in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district reels under bad infrastructure be it road connectivity, Medical facility or provision of drinking water facility, the villagers have access to none.

Trumbgund village has grown used to living with no “modern” amenities.

The government has failed to address the problems of common masses in the area as they have been a victim of official apathy.

Visiting the village is like going back a few decades in time — in the absence of proper road connectivity, the village struggles with basic Sadak, Bijli, Paani issues claimed residents in a chat with Kashmir Despatch.

Contrary to official claims about initiating several development schemes in the villages, residents of the Trumbgund faced a host of problems ranging from a shortage of water and other basic facilities including the road.

Sajad a resident said village sans proper road, and they are in a dilapidated condition for years. “We face problems to ferry patients particularly expecting mothers to the hospital,” especially during winter.

Group of women said the government had failed to provide potable water to the Trumbgund village and termed it an act of cruelty and injustice to them.

They said we have been struggling to meet our basic water needs for months but authorities hardly bother to restore despite knowing it’s winter in Kashmir. The women flock said the negligence of the authorities forced them to walk long distances to fetch water in this cold.

Sara Begum told this Newspaper “we are unable to manage our household or even cook. This is not the first time we are complaining”. She termed this Trumbgund village “With No Basic Facilities”.

Rifat a college student said it is hard to imagine our lives without amenities. She said this village has grown used to living with no ‘modern’ amenities.

She added, “we will without electricity, drinking water, etc and are still waiting for authorities to wake from their deep slumber.”

“Modern Era” can not truly be considered until the citizens have access to basic amenities like clean water, proper housing, electricity, and education said, villagers.

An official in PHE told Kashmir Despatch that no doubt this village in Sopore is facing a water crisis, he said the department is working on a scheme through which they will get water as per schedule.

R&B Xen Sopore Saleem Ahmed told that the department doesn’t have direct access to the area still will be looked into.

Senior Superindent of Power Development Department (PDD) Sopore when contacted told Kashmir Despatch first it’s not possible village is without electricity since months, he said if they are facing any other issues related to electricity pools, electricity wires the villagers should report to his office so that accordingly matter will be solved, added that he will still confirm from the filed officers about this grievance.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore Ashiq Lily assured Kashmir Despatch that all issues of the Trumbgund villagers will be redressed at earliest.
