Land at Tapper can not be handed over to Army: says Dir Sheep Husbandry

Srinagar: A Day after the Army sought acquisition of land measuring around 129 Kanals at Taper village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the Department of Sheep Husbandry on Saturday said that the land in question is meant for raring of livestock and can not be handed over to Army for defense purposes.


Talking to Kashmir Despatch Director Sheep Husbandry, Kashmir Dr. Abdul Salam Mir said that the department will respond to the letter shot by the army in a couple of days. ‘The land which the army has referred to has been allotted to the sheep husbandry department for raring of livestock. keeping in view the departmental requirement, this land situated at Tapper can not be handed over to the Army. Since the office is closed because of the weekend we will respond to the army’s letter most likely on Monday,”. Dr Samad informed The Kashmir Despatch.

On May 26, the Army’s 19 infantry division ordinance unit had written to the Director Sheep Husbandry expressed its desire to purchase 129 Kanals of land in Pattan area belonging to the Sheep Husbandry department.

“Some troops of this unit are temporarily stationed in your land at Kreri high ground, near Tapperwari village. It is requested to inform whether you wish to sell your above mentioned land to the Indian army,” reads the letter.

The letter had sought reply from the department by May 30. 2020.
