Uri, June 23 : Army on Tuesday claimed to have destroyed two unexploded shells fired from across the border during ceasefire violation last Saturday in Nambla area of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

An official told news agency—two unexploded shells lying in the residential area of Nambla (A) were successfully destroyed by a bomb disposal squad squad of Army without causing harm to anyone.

He said the shells were most probably fired during ceasefire violation by Pakistan last week in which at least three civilians suffered injuries.

“Two unexploded shells were successfully destroyed by Army’s BDS in presence of police and army officials without causing harm to anyone.”

Meanwhile, locals have sought attention from the government and demanded the construction of individual and community bunkers for the safety of the local population.

Mohammad Subhan, an elderly man from the Nambla (A) told that one of the shells fired by Pakistan landed in his lawn and didn’t explode on Saturday.

“God forbid had that exploded here it would have at least killed 15 people. We are living in fear as the cross border shelling seems to have no end,” subhan said—(KNO)
