Financial Package No Substitute To Political Dialogue: JKPM

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement Senior Vice-President Advocate Syed Iqbal Tahir has said that the financial package announced by the administration cannot be an alternative to political dialogue.

While addressing a group of party workers , he said post-Aug 2019, the situation in J&K has turned out to be worse. “Besides the abrogation of special status, the government has taken various anti-people decisions including introducing domicile laws which have added to the alienation of people. He further said that a large number of people continue to be held up in jails in and out of J&K as political detainees. The youth of J&K continue to face unemployment crisis and corruption is rampant. On an overall basis, the internal situation of J&K is very precarious”, Iqbal Tahir said while addressing partymen.

While commenting on the recent financial package announced by the administration, JKPM leader said that as a result of the clampdown announced the administration in August last year, the economy of the state was terribly hit. He further stated that the industry bodies in J&K have expressed strong displeasure at the package announced by the government. As per the industry bodies, the economy in J&K suffered a loss of over Rs 40,000 Cr and the package announced is just paltry Rs 1350 crore. He demanded that the government must compensate the business and trading community of J&K for the actual losses that they have suffered so that the economy comes back on track.

JKPM leader further said that while the revival of economy was necessary,  the government shall simultaneously initiate dialogue process for resolution of the basic issue so that permanent peace is achieved in the region.
