Gunfight rages in Shopian village

Shopian, Oct 14 : An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday afternoon.

An official told Kashmir Despatch that a gunfight rages at Chakoora area of Shopian this afternoon.

He said earleir a cordon and search operation was launched in the area following inputs about the presence of some militants.

The search operation turned into gunfight after hidding militants fired upon searching party.

A police officer told Kashmir Despatch that contact has been established and firing from both sides is on.
