Braving fear and cold weather, militancy hotbed Sopore witnessing serpentine lines of voters

Sopore, Dec 01 : Despite cold weather long queues of voters were seen waiting for their turn to cast their vote in Sopore area of Baramulla- once the hot bed of militancy.


Braving the chill of Ist December, enthusiastic voters were seen casting their votes since early morning in Sopore area of North Kashmir for development and prosperity.


The voters told Kashmir Despatch that they casted their votes for development and prosperity of their region.


“We have to move on and leave behind the days of violence and fear and seek development, prosperity and peace in our region. We can’t just live in fear for our whole life,” one of the voters wishing anonymity said.


A police official said that police has been working since last 6 months to restore peace in the region.
“For the smooth functioning of election process and restoring peace in the region, police has been working continously to bring out people from the fear they are witnessing past several years. We arrested several anti-national elements who were trying to instill fear in the minds of people,” the police official said.
