Sopore, Feb 10 : The super talented cyclist of Sopore who paddled from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in 27 days, was today felicitated by several organisations at Sanctorum School at Sopore.
The young athlete, who hails from Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, covered the distance from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in 27 days. He started his journey on 1st of January and completed on 27th January, 2021.
Manan was given a hero’s welcome at the event with several organisations under the banner Inspire Kashmir, felicitating the cyclist.
They hailed the organizations and youth especially Sameer Ahmad who provided assistance to the cyclist and encouraged Wani to paddle from Kashmir to Kanyakumari on a cycle.
Wani has bagged 32 gold, silver and bronze medals at various national, state and district level cycling and running competitions besides achieving the feat of cycling the 480-km Srinagar-Leh highway in record 22 hours.
The event was attended by several notable personalities of Sopore On this occasion, filmmaker Jalal ud din was the chief guest.
The youth congratulated Manan for his solo expedition from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and termed him the role model for the youth of valley.
Talking to Kashmir Despatch, Sameer Ahmad said that it was a self-sponsored solo expedition of Manan Wani.
“I myself have faced a lot of hardships during my expeditions. I don’t want these young ones to suffer financially or morally. Manan is a capable cyclist and I encouraged him to paddle from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. I wish him good luck,” Sameer added.
He said that by encouraging youth and providing them a platform to excel in their fields, you are actually saving youth from drug addiction, wrongdoings, and social evils.
