Baramulla, Mar 01 : Water logging in various parts of Sopore and Baramulla in north Kashmir continues to irritate a large chunk of population besides turning the roads into shambles.
As per news agency (KNO), during the recent rains that lashed parts of Kashmir, the worst hit areas, including Model Town Sopore and Baramulla parts where residents suffer due to waterlogging.
Local residents of Model Town Sopore said that the administration is well aware of the problems faced by them. “The administration should take immediate and necessary steps to resolve the issues confronting the inhabitants due to waterlogging,” they said.
Saima, a college student said that every time it rains or snows water accumulates on the roads causing huge inconvenience to the people residing in the area. “I took alternative route which took me almost hour to reach to college,” she said.
Sajad Ahmad, a resident of Alsafa colony Baramulla, told KNO that, “There is no proper drainage system in the area and every time after the rainfall, the areas are submerged in water.”
He said: “we have often raised these issues with the local administration but nothing changed.”
Falak, another resident of Alsafa Colony said that in this pandemic period, the people living in this colony are not able to fulfill their basic necessities (buying food) etc as the roads are clogged by water completely.
Meanwhile, residents of Stadium colony Baramulla hit the streets and up in arms against authorities for failed to redress their issue as since two days as per them they are unable to move due to waterlogging.
Talking to news agency KNO, executive officer Sopore Sameer Jan said that due to new construction in the said area without proper drainage system, the residents are facing issue, he said department is doing best to help them out and also looking for other alternative so that the residents will get rid from the waterlogging.
Meanwhile, the officer in MC Baramulla when contacted, told KNO that a team has been deputed to the area and will redress the issue, he said if there are still any lanes where people are facing inconvenience will look into also—(KNO)
