Waterlogged town of Sopore; Police came to the rescue of students

Sopore police on Monday came to the rescue of hundreds of students near Government Boys Higher Secondary School Sopore when the police personnel drained out the water and mud from the front gate of the educational institution.

Reports said that on the first day of the school reopening, hundreds of students of GHSS Boys Sopore were left aggrieved as they were unable to enter the institution due to water logging outside the gate.

A police team led by SHO Sopore Azim Khan reached the scene and drained out the water with the use of machinery and police personnel.

The step was hailed by all especially the student community.

“We are thankful to Sopore police who helped in clearing the waterlogged area and brought a smile on everyone’s face. Such things from police are actually a welcome step. We hope that Sopore police will help us in near future too, ” said Zubair Ahmad, a student of GHSS Sopore.

The Station House Officer later on had an interaction with higher secondary school adminstration and students and apprised them of the rising drug menace in the area.

“The Sopore police will provide every kind of support to the student community but any misadventure by anti social elements will be dealt strictly. We won’t allow anyone to indulge in drug dealing or substance abuse inside the educational institutions or outside it,” SHO Sopore told the students.

He said that police in collaboration with educational institutions will hold counseling and drug deaddiction programs in coming days.

The student community welcomed the steps taken by Sopore administration especially police of relocating the street vendors. They also welcomed the measures taken to prevent traffic jams in the town.
