West Indies superstar cricketer Kieron Pollard has become just the third batsman in international cricket to hit 6 sixes in an over. Pollard achieved the feat when he hit Sri Lanka’s Akila Dananjaya out of the park 6 times in the 6th over of West Indies’ successful chase in the first T20I at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua on Thursday.
KIeron Pollard joins World Cup-winning former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as the only other batsman to hit 6 sixes in an over in T20I cricket. At the international level, it was former South Africa opener Herschelle Gibbs who achieved the feat first — in a World Cup 2007 match against the Netherlands.
Yuvraj Singh had become the first player to hit 6 sixes in an over in T20I cricket against England’s Stuart Broad in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007.
For Akila Dananjaya, it was a night of extremes as he had picked up a hat-trick in the previous over before conceding 6 sixes in an over to Kieron Pollard. West Indies won the first T20I of the 3-match series. by 4 wickets after successfully gunning down 132.
Akila Dananjaya had picked up a hat-trick in his first over, removing the likes Evin Lewis (28), Chris Gayle (0), and Nicholas Pooran (0). West Indies were in a spot of bother at 62 for 4 after losing a flurry of wickets but the 6th overe turned it around for the hosts.
Pollard 11-ball 38 helped Sri Lanka gun down the target in just 13.1 overs and take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series.
