Srinagar, Mar 25 : Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men were killed and two others were injured in an attack by militants in Lawaypora in outskirts of Srinagar on Thursday afternoon.
An official told Kashmir Despatch that militants fired at the CRPF party at Lawaypora area of Srinagar in which four CRPF men were injured and were taken to nearby hospital where two injured CRPF men succumbed, while other two are undergoing treatment.
The officer identified one among the driver as Ashok Kumar, a resident of Chandigarh. and another an ASI of the 73 battalion GD Manga Ram Dev Barman, while injured have been identified as Constable Jagan Nath Roy and Constable Nazim Ali.
The officer further added that entire area was sealed to nab the attackers.
Sources, informed Kashmir Despatch that militants decamped with an Ak-47 rifle from the CRPF men during the attack.
Meanwhile,Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar paid a rich tribute to the CRPF personnel who lost their life today in a militant attack in Lawaypora area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.
Taking on to the official twitter handle of Kashmir Police, the police wrote “IGP Kashmir and all ranks of Kashmir Zone Police pay rich tributes to martyr SI/GD Manga Ram Dev Barman & Ct Ashok Kumar of 73Bn CRPF who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty at Lawaypora Srinagar. We stand by their families at this critical juncture, ends the tweet.
Police in a statement issued to Kashmir Despatch said that “Preliminary investigations indicate that this attack was planned & carried out by the militants s affiliated with LeT outfit,”
The statement reads that police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law.
“Investigation is vigorously going on and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this crime besides identifying the militants involved in the crime. Area has been cordoned and search in the area is going on to nab the militants,” the police statement further reads.
