The people across Kashmir Valley are immensely suffering because of administrative apathy. There seems no sense of accountability among the different government departments which are otherwise meant for ensuring effective public services.
The month of Ramadan acts as a litmus test for the efficacy of the administration, especially in J&K. Be it uninterrupted electric or water supplies, hassle free availability of ration or fuel supplies; the administration is responsible to ensure that there is no inconvenience caused to the general public, especially during this blessed month.
However, the administration in Kashmir valley seems to be in deep slumber. Traders, shopkeepers and bakers are on rampant loot, though, there are certain exceptions.
Those traders who deal with sale of vegetables and fruits and does not refrain from hoarding and charging exorbitant rates from the people need to be taken to task.
Till our business community understands the spirit of this holy month, the administration is duty bound to deliver on its mandate and regulate the prices which are giving a tough time to the consumers.
People in Kashmir expect the union government to tighten noose around the corrupt, incompetent and collaborative officers so that the consumers take a sigh of relief.
Lt. Governor should also take a note of the peoples grievances as any lackadaisical approach on part of his administration would mean failure of the union government in J&K. It is high time that the J&K administration particularly in Kashmir valley must act on ground and leave the cozy rooms where they seems to be engrossed in video conferencing and power point presentations on effective governance.
