After the Spanish flu of 1918, the world has seen a new kind of virus that appears to be contracted by humans through zoonotic jump, which is described as a ‘transmission of viruses between animals and people’.
The virus directly attacks the tender tissues of lungs, wherein it incubates and starts its replication within ten to fifteen days, the duration that appears to be shortened after the advent of double-mutant.
In 2020, the world governments along with their available medical facilities seemed entirely impromptu and awfully baffled at the outbreak. However, after months long comprehensive medical research, for the first time in history a vaccine against such a virulent disease was procured in just a years’ time period.
Nevertheless, the problem persists, the contagious nature of this disease is far greater than the production of vaccines and the mass inoculation drives. So, the doctors and health experts felt incumbent to coin a term called COVID Appropriate Behavior (CAB) through which a person living in current times can avert the contraction of disease by following certain simple rules.
But rules within no time become a burden and sooner delinquency is adapted as a norm. This attitude of people is one of many factors that can be held responsible for the recent surge in Coronavirus cases across the country.
What is required is to act according to expert advice of the health specialists, who time and again repeat the mantras of Mask, Sanitizer and Social Distance. But as simple they appear easily they are neglected in our society.
A recent video surfaced on the social media has sent scare waves across J&K wherein COVID ward of SMHS was shown in order to wake the people up from their impervious attitude towards the pandemic. What is shocking is that there were multiple attendees to a single COVID patient who were least equipped with proper guard or PPE Kits. Even the anchor had no protective gears, gloves or N95 mask who continued on to interview even the Covid patients.
The intent is not in question rather it is our maturity to handle this pandemic and governing our actions in accordance with the Covid Appropriate Behaviour till the herd immunity or 100% population gets inoculated. Until then this saying is needed to be adopted in letter and spirit:
