From a few hundreds to plus 3000 thousand cases per day, Covid-19 is bracing up in J&K and the threat it poses to human lives is no hidden secret. Though the people had started taking up preventive measures but the situation is still drastic.
The question is; where are the loopholes then? As the central government is offering all the possible support to the local administration, the system appears to be lacking in managing the spread of the virus efficiently.
Wherever the pandemic has caused disaster only a planned and systematic strategy has helped the way out. But in our case the impervious attitude adapted by the administration is causing much chaos.
The scenes at Srinagar Airport corroborate that due to lackadaisical handling of the authorities no Covid-19 protocol is being followed as it should be. The non-local residents stand in long queues with no social distance at all.
In a similar manner, a video had surfaced a few days before in which the labour force working at a dam project in Rajouri-Poonch were allegedly asked to travel in a jam-packed bus, trampling the SOP guidelines under their feet.
Today people are not dying because of Covid-19 but due to unavailability of health care facilities as there is tremendous pressure on Hospitals while the patient count is only increasing day by day.
What needs to be done is to strictly follow the pre-emptive measures and SOP’s so that we don’t have to regret the blight that can fall over our society, in case offhand approach is adapted.
