Drug abuse is one of the worst kinds of social evils and a hazardous practice that not only impairs the cognitive abilities of a person for a time being but carries enough potential to inflict lifelong damages to the bodies of drug addicts.
Kashmir valley has lately witnessed a high surge in the number of drug addiction cases which has even crossed lakhs. The situation on ground zero is becoming more drastic with a great number of youth falling into this malicious trap.
Pertinently, various drug peddling circles have been recently busted in which a huge quantity of expensive drugs was seized.
Now the reports suggest that there has been a manifold increase in the usage of such drugs across Kashmir. Many drug addicts consume such materials for seeking pleasure while others desire to alter consciousness in order to flee from the pain and trepidation they face in their lives.
But the health hazards resulting from such consumption is immensely nerve-wracking.
On the other hand, while speaking on a societal level, the criminal practice of Drug addiction is also detrimental to the growth and progress of a developing society.
It is because of this mal-practice due to which many families in Kashmir have been devastated as the whole family has to face the brunt of its consequences collectively.
This self-imposed plague is eating into the vitals of our community and youth in particular that needs to be taken into cognizance.
The war against drugs needs to be waged on different fronts while seeking cooperation from the administration, NGO’s & Trusts, thinkers, educationists, religious leaders, social workers and most importantly parents and teachers.
The apt steps taken today in regards to halting the spread of this ominous practice in society will ensure that our future is secure otherwise it’s all gloomy and dark.
