Sopore, July 03 : After the emphatic victory in Sopore Municipal Council elections for the president post, NC councilor Masrat Kar said that overall development of Sopore is her top priority.
Masarat Kar, the National Conference councillor was Saturday elected as president of the Municipal Council Sopore.
She defeated the PDP’s councilor Irfan Ali by a margin of six votes.
As per the official reports, out of total 18 councillors, 12 voted in favour of Masrat Kar while as 06 voted in favor of Irfan Ali.
While talking to Kashmir Despatch, Masrat Kar said that holistic development of Sopore is one of her top priorities.
“My main aim to contest the elections is to work for the development and betterment of Sopore. Due to the lackadaisical approach of certain people, Sopore has witnessed serious underdevelopment. But our top priority will be overall development of the area,” Masrat added.
She reiterated her commitment to the people of Sopore and said the bond she established as a councilor with people in the past would continue for the rest of her life.
“Many pending works have to be completed. I have entered the field of politics to complete the unfinished works and I think it is my duty to complete the projects and assist the people of Sopore,” she said.
The election for 13 vacant wards of MC Sopore was held in December, 2020, in which National Conference bagged 10 seats while 2 were won by independent candidates and a seat was won by a PDP candidate.
