HANDWARA, Nov 20: Executive Engineer Power Development Department along with Assistant Accounts Officer PDD Handwara, accused of accepting bribes, were arrested here on Saturday, officials said.
Sources said that the executive engineer concerned and his AAO were detained after a complaint of graft was registered against them by a contractor before the Anti Corruption Bureau.
A senior police officer said that on the basis of complaint, a team accompanied by Tehsildar Handwara trapped the erring official at his office.
“The team recovered rupees 20000/ from possession of the person which he had taken as bribe”, the officer said.
Sources said that a team of ACB accompanies by the executive magistrate searched the PDD premises followed by complete scrutiny of records and search of vehicles belonging to the concerned ExEn and AAO.
The sleuths of ACB later arrested the two officers and handed them over to the local police station, sources added.
The accused person has been arrested and a case under FIR number 337/2021 under section 7 of PC Act has been registered for further proceedings, the officer added.
It has been learnt by GNS that the complaint was filed by a Handwara-based contractor namely Khalid Shah.
